European Residency

2 February 2024

Living in Australia certainly has its perks, but it also has its drawbacks. One drawback is being so far from everywhere else. The distance has meant that us Aussies tend to do things our own way, but it also means we’re more removed from seeing how everyone else does things. For the average creative studio in Sydney, there is only so much googling and desktop research we can do to understand global industry trends and best practices for our clients. And even then, with algorithmic echo chambers and increasingly smaller editorial rooms, we all end up being fed the same results and seeing the same things.

Well it’s time for the Eatery to stop googling and start seeing!

From July to October this year, Eatery will be working remotely from Europe. We’re calling this our “European Residency”. As a term usually reserved for artists, we thought it was fitting for our own design adventures abroad. We’ll be basing ourselves primarily out of London, but also enjoying month-long stays in two cities we love, Paris and Zurich. We want to study the real je ne sais quoi of Parisians, the enduring power of Swiss design and delve into what makes London the global tastemaker that it is.

This residency will be an invaluable experience for us as a studio, but also an invaluable resource for our clients too. We’ll have our laptops, Pantone books and internet, so it will be “business as usual” while we are away. The only difference is we'll be working from the latest co-working space in London, a chic local café in Paris or a perfectly run hotel in Zurich. We take to the skies from July, but will have more information on our residency throughout the year.

Have laptops, will travel. Next stop, London!
